2nd draft: A space academy student escaping grief wakes up during a deep space mission having forgotten the last six weeks, with the ship captain missing, no control of the ship, and orbiting a planet that won't let her leave.
(decided to refocus this pitch on different, more immediate story elements above)
Original draft: A graduating space academy student's chance to study a sentient planet is disrupted when her best friend appears on board their space ship seemingly unaware she's supposed to be dead.
(Thanks for your feedback!)

Hi, there! I like the premise so far! I’d be excited to see more specifics as soon as you have them that will flesh this out into a query Best of luck with this!

Hi Heather
Although intriguing, this reads more like a scene than a story. This isn't a plot. If the dead girl is an avatar for the planet, then I would expect that's not an end of book reveal and maybe that should be mentioned here. Either way, is it just doubts about the friend's reality that drives the entire story?
